TThe MFL department offers French at Key Stage 3 and both French and Spanish at Key Stage 4. We consistently deliver engaging lessons, using a wide range of teaching methods and well differentiated resources. The target language is used to communicate in the classroom by both teachers and students alike. Our courses are designed by our directing team to enable students to tackle the demands of the new GCSE. They all include 4 equally important skills: Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing. Our schemes of learning enable students to develop their memory as they are trained to memorise vocabulary. They also enable students to improve their understanding of English and encourage them to become better communicators. Yet, first and foremost, we aim at giving students an opportunity to discover and understand new cultures so that they become accustomed to different perspectives and view points. Our MFL lessons are windows to the world.
The French course at Key Stage 3 provides students with the necessary skills and knowledge to access the AQA French GCSE course in Key Stage 4. Throughout Y7 and Y8 grammatical points and vocabulary on specific topics are constantly revisited in a cyclical process which allows students to retain content and deepen their listening, reading, writing and speaking skills. Praising stars assessments at KS3 reflect GCSE question types. Yet students are also able to explore fun facts and themes which would not necessarily appear in a GCSE paper.
If you would like further information about the topics and themes being taught please contact: Miss Catia Vaz, Head of Languages.
