The Design & Technology department aims to develop student’s independence and accuracy through a series of lessons that challenge and inspire students.
The design and technology course at Key Stage 3 provides students with the necessary skills and knowledge to access the Design and Technology Technical Award course in Key Stage 4. In both Year 7 and 8 students will work in Materials Technology, Textiles and Food. Students complete a wide range of projects in material areas, which include Materials Technology, Textiles and Food. Throughout the projects students will develop a wide range of skills these include; problem solving, communication, working independently and as part of a team to manufacture a complete and effective end product.
AQA Level 2 Technical Award in Materials Technology
Unit 1: 3 or 4 focussed projects that cover 12 core skills and is internally assessed under controlled assessment conditions. The focus is on wood, metal and plastics and developing the manufacturing skills in each area
Unit 2: an extended project that allows students to plan and make a product, demonstrating the skill previously demonstrated in Unit 1. This unit is internally assessed under controlled assessment conditions
Unit 3: Externally accessed exam that draws in the skills learnt throughout the course and during the making projects.
