Welcome to Performing Arts

The Performing Arts area strives to provide students with lots of performance opportunities within lessons and as part of our larger showcase environments. Drama and Dance are both taught in lessons and students will explore a range of themes, styles and topics.

Key Stage 3

The Performing Arts course at Key Stage 3 provides students with the necessary skills and knowledge to access the Level 1/2 Award BTEC Dance/Drama courses in Key Stage 4. Year 7 aims to focus on key skills and basic principles with year 8 starting to explore each skill in more depth and encouraging individual progression and performance opportunities.

Key Stage 4

BTEC Tech Award in Performing Arts

Component 1 Exploring the Performing Arts

Aim: get a taste of what it’s like to be a professional actor, dancer or musical theatre performer across different styles.

Assessment: internally assessed assignments

Component 2 Developing skills and techniques

Aim: develop skills and techniques in the chosen discipline(s) of acting, dance and musical theatre.

Assessment: internally assessed assignments

Component 3 Performing to a brief

Aim: consider how practitioners adapt their skills for different contexts, and put this into practice in a performance.

Assessment: externally assessed task where students work in groups of between 3 and 7 members to create a performance based on a set brief.
