Welcome to Performing Arts

The Performing Arts area strives to provide students with lots of performance opportunities within lessons and as part of our larger showcase environments. Drama and Dance are both taught in lessons and students will explore a range of themes, styles and topics.

Key Stage 3

The Performing Arts course at Key Stage 3 provides students with the necessary skills and knowledge to access the Level 1/2 Award BTEC Dance/Drama courses in Key Stage 4. Year 7 aims to focus on key skills and basic principles with year 8 starting to explore each skill in more depth and encouraging individual progression and performance opportunities.

Key Stage 4

BTEC Level 1/2 Award in Dance

Unit 1 – Externally assessed unit comprising of 2 solo dances and a written letter of application.

Unit 2 – Planning, preparation and performance, working together as a production team to produce a final dance showcase to an audience

Unit 4 – Dance skills unit, Jazz dance and Contemporary dance are two of the styles which will be explored before developing and devising own choreography to show the skills acquired.
